RainbowYOUTH is seeking executive advisors (EAs) to join our governance board in a voluntary capacity. The EA role provides an opportunity for people over the age of 27 to influence and support the work and growth of RainbowYOUTH through mentoring and guiding the executive board. If you’re passionate about the intersex, queer and gender diverse community and would like to use your skills and experience to give back to the community, we’d love to hear from you!
With almost 30 years of history to build on, we are the largest youth-led and youth-run organisation for rainbow young people in Aotearoa. This by-youth, for-youth kaupapa lies at the centre of what we do. Executive Advisors form an important part of RainbowYOUTH’s governance team, bringing different skills to the board made up of 8 RY members aged between 13-27. EAs to the RY Executive Board will be passionate about supporting and mentoring rangatahi to succeed in leadership roles.

What’s that saying? Lotsa hands make light work?
Here are the key ways you can volunteer at RainbowYOUTH:
- Represent RY at community events:
We’ll give you the run down about how to talk about RY, and send ya along with a staff member, board member or intern off to network! This is a great way to get in touch with the wider community, and it helps get RainbowYOUTH’s name and image out there! If you’re interested get in touch at [email protected].
- Facilitating our peer-support groups, or working with RY to set one up in your area:
If you think there’s an area that needs a peer-support group, and you’re keen to help us start one up, email us at [email protected] to tell us the ‘what’, ‘when’, ‘where’ and ‘why’ and we can help you with the ‘how’! If you want to facilitate an existing group, start going along to the one that you like the sounds of. Also keep an eye out on our Volunteers Facebook group – we’ll post any and all open facilitator positions there.
- Interning at RY:
Our interns look after our drop-in centre on weekdays. They welcome people, give them any resources they’re looking for and point them in the right direction for any needs they may have. Interns also answer the phone, keep the centre all spruced up and do odd admin jobs for staff. If this sounds like a bit of you, make sure you keep an eye out on our Volunteers Facebook group – we’ll post any and all calls for Interns there.
