RainbowYOUTH (RY) is looking for a community driven Homelessness Advisor to work with us for 12 months to build capability within RY for working with homeless rangatahi successfully, and developing strong referral pathways.

Queer and gender diverse rangatahi are overrepresented in homelessness statistics. RY’s Homelessness Advisor will work in partnership with other organisations and communities, to raise awareness of homelessness in queer and gender diverse rangatahi communities. The key outcome we are driving towards is reducing queer and gender diverse rangatahi homelessness by:

  • Building relationships between RainbowYOUTH and queer and gender diverse homeless or at-risk-of-being-homeless rangatahi.
  • Work with mainstream organisations supporting homeless rangatahi, and housing providers, to ensure that they are rainbow competent.
  • Support Housing First Auckland to deliver a regional Point in Time Count that captures data on queer and gender diverse rangatahi experiencing homelessness.

The Advisor will be working closely with both Lifewise and the Housing First Collective, as well as other organisations working towards ending homelessness. Youth or social work experience is preferred, and a strong understanding of the root causes and cycle of homelessness is key, as well as awareness of queer and gender diverse communities.

This role has been generously funded by the Auckland Council.
